Ukraine, Russia and the EU may hold trilateral talks on the transit of Russian gas in early 2019. This was announced by the European Commission following the meeting of the Vice-President of the EC maroš Šefčovič and Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, reports ONLINE.UA.
Sefcovic hopes that the parties will be able to reach agreement in the gas issue. In his opinion, this is a common task of the European Commission, the government of Ukraine, “Naftogaz” and the European consumers.
“The European Commission is ready to assist in this process in the coming weeks, and within just 2019, as it is a key element of the tripartite gas talks. A successful outcome, namely long-term transit of gas through Ukraine to the EU a reliable and cost-effective way is of paramount importance for the energy security of European consumers”, – said Vice-President of the EC.
It is also noted that to progress directly to the negotiations probably will be the technical expert meetings.
