The new rear quarter of the Alouettes, Johnny Manziel, is struck by the player of the Tiger-Cats Jason Neill.
We admit it : it happened to us to close our console after a poor start to the match in our favorite game. The Montreal Alouettes would have surely wanted to do the same for the debut of Johnny Manziel in the canadian League.
The Tiger-Cats took advantage of two turnovers to register 14 points and build a lead of 28-0 in the first quarter, en route to an overwhelming victory of 50-11 at the expense of the Cheerleader.
After having seen Hamilton score a touchdown on their first possession, Manziel, who has experienced a difficult game, was intercepted on his second attempt to pass. Three games later, the Tiger-Cats were 14-0.
On their next series, the kicker Alouettes Boris Bede saw his attempted clearance blocked by Curtis Newton. Sean Thomas Erlington has collected the ball and crossed the 10 yards between the end zone and it was 21-0 after just eight minutes of play.
The Alouettes and the 18 576 spectators gathered in the stade Percival-Molson hadn’t seen anything yet.
Manziel threw his second interception of the game on the following sequence, which led to the hit Jalen Saunders on a pass of 21 yards to Jeremiah Masoli (17 for 26, 300 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions) to make it 28-0 before the end of the first quarter.
The Tiger-Cats led 38-3 at halftime.
“I can’t explain this poor start to the match, said head coach Mike Sherman after the meeting. If I knew, it would not have occurred as well. We had a very good week in training, but for a reason I ignore, the power to see does not convey in the games. “
“We missed the start of the match, that’s for sure. This is unacceptable, the way in which we have dealt in the three phases of the game, for its part, has indicated the centre-back Patrick Lavoie, who was struggling to contain his anger. It doesn’t make sense to do it at home. It is necessary to respect the people who are paying to come and see us here. A score of 50-11, this is not the right way to do it. “
Brandon Banks, Green and Masoli scored the other touchdowns for the Tiger-Cats (3-4). Lirim Hajrullahu has been completed to the mark with investments of 42, 48 and 28 yards. Bede replied with an investment of 30 yards for the Alouettes (1-6).
One entry missed
Manziel ? He has shown some nice flashes, but he had been intercepted four times in the first two quarters. He left the game after three quarters, completing 11 of his 20 passes for 104 yards and four costly interceptions.
The newcomer of the Alouettes, however, did not show.
“I was very confident approaching this match. I felt ready, at ease, he said. I was perhaps a bit too excited, however. I’ve made several throws that I don’t do usually. I have not done a good job in giving the tone from our first possession.
“Football is not an easy sport. This is the largest number of interceptions I’ve thrown in a match. It is a lesson of humility. “
Vernon Adams son has finished the game behind center, without much more success, completing one pass in five attempts for three yards. He even added a touchdown for the race at the end of the meeting.
It should not, however, believe that Manziel is the only one responsible for this crushing defeat. The winner of the Heisman trophy back in 2012, has often had to dodge the tackles of the defenders that have not been blocked by the line of the attack.
The defence of Larks was to be one of the strengths of the team this season. It would be time that she raised her game up a notch. Too often, the recipients of Masoli were purposes only or could lost in the fog of their markers.
A game does not make a season, much less a career : it must not, therefore, judge too harshly the performance of Manziel. The most ironic thing in the history : if he had remained with the Tiger-Cats, he would have played Friday. June Jones has removed Masoli of the match in the favour of Dane Evans at the end of the match…
The director-general Kavis Reed, who has put his head on the chopping block with this transaction, will continue its work, since there are still many gaps to fill.
The Alouettes have now lost their past nine outings at the stade Percival-Molson. Their last victory dates back to 11 August. There is also a 17th defeat in their past 18 meetings for the troop of Mike Sherman.
