70-year-old Austrian ex-Colonel, who is suspected of espionage in favor of Russia was arrested on the night of 10 November and is in custody.
It is noted that the arrest the police explained the probability of escape of a suspect and possible committing of crimes.
The decision on remand will be taken for a few days – 12 or 13 November. Likely the spy, according to the law, could face up to 10 years in prison.
The President of Austria van der Bellen commented on the situation with the spy scandal in an interview with radio station Ö1.
“We must wait for the completion of the investigation. It is important to understand what information he had access to the officer and isn’t it all fiction. At this stage I see no reason to dramatize the incident, action will be taken in the circumstances”, he said.
He also added that he is not going to discuss this issue with Russian President during his visit to Paris.
