The Maple Leafs have turned it around to finally defeat the Habs for a seventh consecutive time.
Zach Hyman broke the tie with 1:50 left in the third period and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Canadian 6-3, Saturday, after having overcome a deficit of three goals.
The Canadian had taken the lead 3-0 in the first twenty, but the Maple Leafs have been able to reverse the trend and finally beat the Habs for a seventh consecutive time. The last victory of the Canadian in the face of the Leafs dating back to February 25, 2017.
Hyman took advantage of a return after a run of Mitch Marner to play the hero at the end of the third period. On the sequence, Hyman picked up a 100th point in the NHL and Marner, a 200th.
Andreas Johnsson and Hyman, with his second of the match, were credited with the goals in an empty net during the final minute of the game.
“We have frozen after the second goal, we have not continued to play the way we needed to,” noted the head coach of the Canadian, Claude Julien. We gave them the opportunity to come back into the game, and then win.
“We had the chance to get at least a point, and then a second. When you make a mistake in your territory with less than two minutes to do, it’s things like this that are going to kill you. “
Jeff Petry and Andrew Shaw have earned each a goal and an assist, while Tomas Tatar has also hit the target for the Canadian (33-22-7), which had won its two previous games. Carey Price gave up four goals on 35 shots.
William Nylander and Auston Matthews have amassed each a goal and an assist, while Tyler Ennis also scored for the Maple Leafs (37-20-4), which put an end to a series of three consecutive losses (0-2-1). Jonathan Drouin was not in uniform for the encounter even if he was involved in the warm-up period. The team indicated that he was annoyed by a virus. Nicolas Deslauriers has therefore been inserted in the formation.
Mete played his 100th career game in the NHL.
The Canadian will play its next game on Monday, when he will visit the New Jersey Devils. It will be in Detroit the next day to face the Red Wings.
