Announced first in 2009, the project of fast service by bus on Pie-IX boulevard in Montreal has been postponed four times.
The long-awaited bus rapid (BRT) on boulevard Pie-IX is in the process of becoming reality. Nearly ten years after the first announcement of this transit project, the completion of which has been postponed four times, the work will begin in the fall, announced by the government of Quebec on Friday.
The total cost of the project is valued at $ 393 million, of which $ 30 million will be used to purchase new buses for the service, including the frequency of passage will be similar to that of the metro.
The site for the development of this corridor express reserved at all times for buses will be integrated in the rehabilitation of the underground infrastructure of the boulevard that will lead the City of Montreal.
The hov lane will extend north and south about 11 miles, the boulevard Saint-Martin, Laval — where will be built a parking incentive of 750 places, to the subway station Pie-IX in Montreal. It will include 17 stations distributed along this important artery, which must be connected to the extension of the blue line of the metro.
The City will benefit from the construction site to make a beauty on the boulevard Pie-IX. Including planting hundreds of trees, widen sidewalks and improve lighting.
Ultimately, the BRT on Pie-IX should allow it to better serve the citizens of eastern Montréal and the north shore by adding 30 000 daily trips by public transport.
Quebec also announced on Friday that it will move forward with the reconstruction of the bridge Pie-IX, which will have an hov lane in a southerly direction.
