The police Department of new York (NYPD) has launched a new program on the use of drones. Police plans to use its fleet of drones from 14 pieces, for search and rescue missions, descriptions of crime scenes, in the case of hazardous incidents, as well as large-scale events such as concerts and a hostage situation.
In the Arsenal of the NYPD there are three types of drones: a drone is DJI Inspire to be used for training and testing, two DJI M210 RTK and eleven DJI Mavic Pro for “tactical operations”.
The NYPD also clarified that he is not going to use drones for routine patrols, monitoring of the car parks to stop vehicles or detention of suspects. Drones cannot be equipped with weapons or used with it. Also the NYPD are not going to use them to conduct unauthorized searches. The Department added that the use of unmanned aerial vehicles will only be allowed to officers of the Department of response of technical support (Technical Assistance Response Unit, TARU) who have been trained to work with the devices.
