The US President retains the option of imposing sanctions for the implementation of the project of the pipeline “Nord stream – 2”. This was stated on Thursday Minister of energy of the USA Rick Perry at a joint press conference with energy Minister of Poland Krzysztof Tchorzewski.
“Our position has not changed. The US does not support the project “Northern stream – 2″. I have not seen any signals that we might somehow support”, – quotes the official TASS.
“Sanctions are an option available to the President. He will make the decision,” said Perry.
Recall that the United States opposes the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream – 2” which should pass from Russia to Germany through the Baltic sea to bypass transit States. Adopted last year, U.S. law CAATSA (“ON countering the enemies of America by sanctions”) envisages the possibility of unilateral restrictive measures, including in relation to firms participating in the project “Northern stream – 2”.
The United States believes that the new pipeline will supply the EU countries are dependent on Russia.
