The sentence a whole generation?
Too much time spent in the screen increases children’s risk of myopia, obesity and cancer, experts say.
Review of 80 studies in total covering 200,000 people, came to the conclusion that the main risk factors of childhood obesity along with sweet beverages are smartphones and tablets, reports the Daily Mail.
And excess weight can cause cancer of different organs, including breast, colon, kidney, liver, ovarian, pancreas and prostate.
Overreliance on gadgets not only increases the risk of premature death, but also harm eyesight: the number of children with myopia has doubled over the last 50 years.
Scientists called the results “a serious concern” and urged to limit junk food advertising, which further exacerbates the situation, especially if children don’t exercise.
The study was conducted by the world cancer research Fund. Sofia lowes from the British branch of the Fund says:
“This report underscores the importance of early intervention for cancer prevention. In children with obesity five times higher risk of obesity in adulthood, which is very dangerous because it increases the risk of various cancers”.
Experts say that when children constantly sit in front of screens, it not only reduces physical activity, but also promotes nutrition snacks. This is called “passive overconsumption” – when the kids eat harmful snacks that are advertised in the same device, from which they cannot break away.
In addition to cancer and obesity, screen time also increases the likelihood of developing myopia – nearsightedness.
Over the past 40 years the proportion of children with myopia in Britain has more than doubled: from 7.2% to 16.4%.
This effect scientists call “digital myopia”: every hour spent by a child in front of a screen increases the risk of visual impairment 3%.
According to research, on average children spend with gadgets 8 hours a day.
And the children all previously attached to electronics: a 2-year-old kids spend on their gadgets up to two hours a day!
Looks like we will see an epidemic of short-sightedness and obesity. And maybe cancer…
And you limit the screen time of their children?
